2022. The year of Together with Music Training & Projects!

“I can see the difference Together with Music is making and the multitude of benefits that come from connections between generations and communities. Together with Music is creative and responsive and is going to be transformational for overall wellbeing and quality of life.” Professor Martin Green OBE, CEO of Care England

The Together with Music programme passionately strives to support those most vulnerable across the UK through intergenerational music connections. For the past year our team of connectors have been working hard to support our members in building new intergenerational music connections. The Together with Music platform has been host to over 1250 organisations across the health, social care, education and arts sector and has demonstrated that during a time of distance and isolation, music prevails and inspires incredible connection. The team has loved being part of these journeys and a wonderful, creative year of sharing songs, messages of hope and making new connections digitally; but now it is time to bring these connections to life!

This year, we are focussing on delivering our innovative projects and bespoke training as a way to empower and upskill care givers, volunteers, students and teachers, providing opportunities for residents and young people to come together in person and celebrate

new, thriving community connections.

What is TWM Training? The training is delivered by the Intergenerational Music Making (IMM) team as part of the Together with Music programme and aims to inspire, equip, and further embed the use of music and, more specifically, intergenerational practice in care, health, community, and education settings. The training is shaped and bespoke to the needs of each group. “We are all inherently musical beings. We all have a relationship with it, and we can all engage with it.” Grace Meadows, Music for Dementia The intergenerational training delivered to TwM members follows this ethos of accessibility and empowerment for people to adopt music as part of their current practices, whether a musician or not.

What is a TwM project? Together with Music projects are delivered by trained Music Therapists and Community Musicians and aim to support new intergenerational connections in establishing and embedding the connection into their particular setting. Our projects are co-produced with participants and often consist of music making, song-writing, choral singing, art, movement and so much more. It is all about providing spaces for people to share their stories, raise their voices and connect with those around them. In the past our projects have been seen to:

  • Reduce isolation and loneliness

  • Support those living with dementia

  • Improve self-confidence and self-esteem

  • Empower and champion individuals

  • Contribute to stronger community cohesion
